When Recovery StartsMind How You Go...When you stop drinking and your body is free of alcohol the cravings that you feel are all in your mind. You cannot escape your mind, however much you would like to. It is with you 24 hours a day. It goes everywhere with you so think positively. Take time to think positively. (After all, you took lots of time preoccupied with drinking – how to get it, where to get it, where to hide it, etc, didn’t you?) Now replace some of those drinking hours reflecting on your life, the world and your place in it.Every alcoholic needs to recover in four areas of their lives – physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. The spiritual side is no less important than the others. In fact, many successful recovering alcoholics would say it’s the key to lasting and satisfying sobriety. Building your relationship with God who created you and loves you and cares about every single part of your life is the first step to putting things into perspective. If the creator who made the heavens and the earth loves you – then you must be pretty special. You must accept God’s love and the strength that comes from it. God can and will supply the power that you need to fight alcoholism. You only have to ask – He doesn’t muscle in on you and manipulate and control you like alcohol does. He will gently respond to your request for help and you’ll be amazed at the difference His special ingredient makes. Remember, He’s only a prayer away. You’ve tried everything else. You’ve put your trust in alcohol which was guaranteed to destroy you – so why not sample what is destined only to give you life, encouragement and peace. It will not make you a religious fanatic; it will be the start of a simple journey of faith with One who knows everything about you (and I mean everything), yet He loves you just the same. He accepts you just as you are and wants to help you to pick up the pieces of your life and make a fresh start. He’s ready – are you? Tell Yourself
